MorrisonCon

SEPTEMBER 28 - 30, 2012 | HARD ROCK HOTEL, LAS VEGAS

Q:

Why MorrisonCon?

A:

First and foremost, because we all love Grant Morrison and his work!

We at Ignition Sequence also felt that Grant was the perfect combination of social scientist and creative catalyst to help us re-envision everything that a comic convention could be. There really is no one we could be more excited to collaborate with to invent the jam-packed schedule of unique panels, symposiums, one-on-one signing sessions and late-night mixers. MorrisonCon is an ambitious project and Grant has brought his own brand of genre-blurring and mind-expanding to the table that will make this a truly special event.

Q:

Why is it being held in Las Vegas?

A:

Knowing Grant has fans from the four corners of the globe, we wanted to make MorrisonCon as accessible as possible to everyone who might want to attend this event. And Las Vegas is one of the most inexpensive places to fly both domestically within the US and Internationally. The folks at the Hard Rock Las Vegas also really "get" MorrisonCon, and like us, they think comics are absolutely cool. We like that a lot.

And hey, what city parties harder than Las Vegas?!

Q:

Why is MorrisonCon limited to only 10 special guests and only 1000 attendees?

A:

MorrisonCon was conceived as an intimate gathering of comic creators and their fans, so the attendance was kept deliberately small. While we are sure that Grant could name hundreds of comic creators that inspire him, and we could certainly find several thousand more fans who would want to meet him and his guests...by limiting the number of guests and attendees we can infuse MorrisonCon with a sense of something really unique, keep your interactions personal, and create an event that is truly memorable for us all.

Q:

Why are there "Packages" instead of tickets?

A:

If comic conventions were rock concerts, MorrisonCon is your all-access backstage pass and come with all the cool VIP extras those kind of package deals come with. We've conceived our packages with this inspiration in mind, only this concert and after-party lasts all weekend long.

In addition to MorrisonCon exclusives, your package gets you into all the talks, happenings, meet-ups, and after-hours parties. The Singularity and Polarity packages also include lodging for you at the palatial Hard Rock Hotel to help ensure that that you will never be more than stumbling distance from your fellow fans, our special guests, or your bed.

Q:

Will there be any un-announced superstars in attendance?

A:

One of the things that The Morrisons wanted most of all from MorrisonCon was to get to invite their friends to attend this once-in-a-lifetime celebration of comics and the creators who make them. And believe us when we tell you, The Morrisons seem to know everybody! We won't be officially telling you about any of these un-announced guests from within the worlds of comics and beyond, but suffice it to say, we think attendees are going to be really bewildered with the astonishing superstar surprises Grant has in store for us.

Q:

Can I get an Exhibitor table or booth at MorrisonCon to sell my wares?

A:

The true centerpiece of MorrisonCon is the exchange of ideas and experiences, not commerce, so unlike traditional comic conventions MorrisonCon is not designed with a room for vendors or exhibitors. This means that the only exhibitors at MorrisonCon will be our special guests. If, for example, J.H. Williams III wants to bring art pages to hang in the convention gallery or to sell to folks like you and me who love original comic artwork, then that is excellent!

Q:

Do we know there is another Las Vegas comic convention that same weekend?

A:

Seriously, I ask you... what are the odds?!

We've been secretly working on MorrisonCon at the Hard Rock for just shy of two years, and knowing how much work these things are, they probably have been working on theirs just as long. By the time they knew about us and we knew about them, everybody had venue contracts signed and guests scheduled so there wasn't much that could be done. Fortunately each are both very unique events so thankfully we won't have any competing over vendors or casual walk-in traffic! We think it's exciting to see Vegas getting the convention-love we think it deserves and the Las Vegas Comic Expo looks like a really great event to us. Hopefully we can collaborate with them to make that weekend even more amazing for everyone!

Q:

Can I volunteer to help you guys run MorrisonCon?

A:

As we have a very limited number of attendees and a small list of special guests, MorrisonCon doesn't require the armies of staff that the bigger comic conventions do, so chances are we've already staffed our event up with people we've worked with hosting special events for years. But we are always open to the exciting exchange of ideas, so if you have something in mind that will blow our collective cerebellums, feel free to write to us.

Q:

Will MorrisonCon change my life for the better?

A:

Oh yes, absolutely. (laugh)!
